What is the KI CAD model generator?
The FDM AI 3D Designer is an intelligent tool that allows you to create 3D models using simple text descriptions. Simply describe what you need in German and the artificial intelligence will generate a 3D model that you can view in the browser, measure and then have printed.
How to use the KI CAD model generator
Step 1: Start new project
Click on “+ New project” in the sidebar on the left to start a new design.
Step 2: Start with a basic shape
Enter a simple description in the text field below. Start with the basic form – like this, for example:
- “A cylinder with a diameter of 20 mm and a height of 40 mm”
- “A rectangular plate with 100 x 50 x 5 mm”
- “A cube with an edge length of 30 mm”
Press the Enter key or click on the Send button (➤).
Step 3: View model
After generation, your model appears in the 3D viewer. You can change the perspective to view the model optimally.
- Rotate: Hold down the left mouse button and drag
- Zoom: Scroll mouse wheel
- Move: Hold down the right mouse button and drag
The dimensions of the object (width × depth × height in mm) are displayed automatically.
Step 4: Refine
Now comes the most important part: Describe what you want to change. The AI builds on the existing model. Commands could be:
- “Make the hole 5 mm bigger.”
- “Round off the edges with a 2 mm radius.”
- “Add a lid to the top.”
- “The height should be 35 mm instead of 40 mm.”
Repeat this step as often as necessary until the model meets your requirements.
Step 5: Check dimensions with the measuring tool
Click on the ruler icon (📏) above the 3D model. Then click on two points on the model to measure the distance between them in millimeters.
Step 6: Evaluate the result
You have two options after each generation:
- “Fits like this”: The model meets your expectations.
- “Generate again”: The AI should create a new model with the same description.
Step 7: Order printing
When you are satisfied, click on one of the calculator buttons below the chat (e.g. “Start PLA printing”). You will then be redirected to the price calculator where you can select the material, color and other options.
Further functions
Course of the project
In the left sidebar you can see all your previous projects with date and time. Click on a project to load it again and continue editing it.
Delete all projects
You can delete your entire history using the “Delete all projects” button at the bottom of the sidebar.
Tips for optimum results
- Start small: Start with a simple basic shape.
- Refine step by step: Only change one thing at a time.
- Give specific dimensions: Always state dimensions in millimeters.
- Stay patient: Sometimes it takes several attempts, that’s normal.
