What is a 3D relief?
A relief is a three-dimensional image in which motifs emerge sculpturally from a surface. What used to require time-consuming manual work by sculptors is now done by artificial intelligence: it analyses your photo, automatically recognizes the foreground and background and calculates a print-ready 3D model.
It’s that simple
Our new relief generator takes you to the finished relief in four steps:
- Upload image – Upload a photo (JPG, PNG or WebP). Portraits, animal photos or images with a clear depth structure are particularly suitable.
- Select AI model – Choose from different AI models, depending on the desired result. For most images, we recommend the “DA Small” setting – fast and with good results. If you want maximum detail, go for “DA Large” or “Marigold HD”.
- View 3D preview – The AI creates your relief within a few seconds. You can view and rotate the result from all sides in our interactive 3D viewer – even before you place an order.
- Make a request – Do you like the result? You can request your individual relief with just one click. We print it in high quality using the FDM process.
Which AI model suits my image?
Our Relief Generator offers several AI models that differ in speed and level of detail:
- DA Small (Recommended) – The fastest option with very good results for most images.
- DA Base – Slightly more computing time, but finer details.
- DA Large – Best detail recognition, ideal for complex subjects.
- Marigold – Creates particularly smooth transitions between the depth levels.
- Marigold HD – Highest quality, but requires more computing time.
- MiDaS – The proven classic, particularly robust for different image types.
- ZoeDepth – Works with metric depth estimation for particularly precise results.

Fine adjustments for professionals
For all those who want to know exactly: You can use the advanced settings to customize parameters such as relief depth, width, base thickness and smoothing. A frame around the relief or an inversion (e.g. for casting molds) is also possible.
Which images work best?
As a general rule, the clearer the depth structure in the image, the more impressive the relief. Particularly suitable:
- Portraits – faces result in particularly vivid and recognizable reliefs
- Animal photos – pets as 3D reliefs make a great gift
- Buildings and architecture – clear structures and edges come into their own
- Landscapes – mountains, valleys and horizons create impressive depth effects
