3D-printed components are versatile – but depending on the application, they reach their limits. Fine pores in the print material can lead to parts not being leak-proof, yellowing under the influence of UV light or simply not having the durability required in use. This is precisely where our two new coating options come in.
We are now offering professional sealing with dichtol AM Hydro and dichtol AM UV Protection from DIAMANT Polymer as part of our 3D printing service. We apply both products using an immersion process – this ensures uniform, pore-deep impregnation of the entire component, even in hard-to-reach areas and complex geometries.
dichtol AM Hydro – When it has to be tight
Whether containers, housings or functional prototypes: Many applications require 3D printed parts to be gas and water-tight. dichtol AM Hydro is a water-based, solvent-free sealer that does just that. The polymer penetrates deep into the pore structure of the component, cures there and reliably seals micropores up to 0.2 mm.
What the coating offers you:
- Gas and watertight components
- Increased strength and dimensional stability
- Colorless, transparent surface after curing
- Temperature resistance up to 130 °C
- Compatible with all common coating systems for further processing
The coating is ideal for materials such as PA, PETG, ASA, ABS, PLA and TPU – in other words, for practically all materials that we process in our printing service.
dichtol AM UV Protection – protection from the sun and weather
Components that are used outdoors or under artificial light are exposed to UV radiation. As a result, the material yellows, colors fade and the mechanical properties deteriorate over time. dichtol AM UV Protection combines sealing against liquids and gases with integrated UV protection in a single work step.
What the coating offers you:
- Gas and watertight components
- Long-lasting protection against UV-induced fading and discoloration
- Increased mechanical strength
- Temporary corrosion protection
- Temperature resistance up to 200 °C
- Suitable for larger pores up to 0.5 mm
This variant is particularly interesting for SLS-printed polyamide parts that react sensitively to UV radiation when delivered – such as spectacle frames, housings or outdoor covers.
Why immersion process?
We apply both sealants using the dipping method. The component is completely immersed in the solution so that the polymer can penetrate the pore structure evenly from all sides. This has decisive advantages over application by brush or spray: The impregnation also reaches inner surfaces, undercuts and complex geometries that would be difficult to access with other methods. The result is a consistently uniform seal.
Which coating is the right one?
| AM Hydro | AM UV Protection | |
|---|---|---|
| Gas & waterproof | ✓ | ✓ |
| UV protection | – | ✓ |
| Solvent-free | ✓ | – |
| Temperature resistance | up to 130 °C | up to 200 °C |
| Pore size | up to 0.2 mm | up to 0.5 mm |
| Overpaintable | with all varnishes | Solvent-free & water-based paints |
In short: AM Hydro is the uncomplicated, solvent-free choice for sealed components without UV exposure. If your parts need additional protection against UV radiation or have larger pores, use AM UV Protection.
